Spongarda of Crema is a stuffed dessert made with honey and dried fruit. This dessert is prepared with flour, sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon and other spices, crushed almonds, nuts and walnuts, raisins and candied cedar. The Spongarda gets its name from “sponga”, which means sponge because originally it was similar to a soft focaccia. In the XVIII century honey and almonds were added transforming Spongarda into a sweet product.
